Life Since IIT – Dilip Shirke

I joined the B.Tech. Aeronautical Engineering program in 1969 at IIT Kharagpur. After a short, yearlong stint with Bengali culture I got transferred to Bombay IIT in the 2nd year due to family issues. It was quite a traumatic experience as I was transferred 6 months late and my father met with a fatal accident, almost the same time.

Though I got selected for two UPSC posts in aeronautics after completing the BTech course, I decided to pursue further degree and completed an M. Tech. in propulsion specialisation in 1976.

After serving in the design section of Hindustan Aeronautics at Nashik for 5 years, I shifted to private industries.

As they say, “Aasman Se tapka aur Khajur Mein Atka”. I served in the R& D sections of two-wheeler, three-wheeler, four-wheeler and finally below the earth tractor industries!

Before retirement I served as the Director of Central Institute of Road Transport under the then Department of Surface Transport ministry.

During my service I had the opportunity to travel and interact with Japanese design teams and with consultants all over the globe. It was quite an enriching experience.

After retirement I moved to teaching Aeronautical Engineering. I also worked with IGNOU Delhi to help establish a distance learning course in Aeronautical Engineering.

At the age of 60, I decided to totally retire from work and moved on to research the spiritual sciences like meditation, reiki, self-hypnosis, etc. After interacting with various live masters, I shared my experience in a book I wrote on how to select the right path of meditation. The book is available on Kindle and Amazon.

I tried to form a WhatsApp group to reach out and connect with my friends from the 1974 Aero batch. Unfortunately, many of them are no more, like Deo, Hattangadi, Mane, to name a few. I do miss them a lot.

Well friends, life goes on with still a few of them who care to be in touch. Love and best wishes.
