I was born and brought up in Matunga Mumbai and currently reside just across the street from my old house. After completing my SSC in 1968 from Don Bosco High School, I went to Jai Hind College in Churchgate for my First Year Science. I joined IIT in 1969 in the Mechanical Department, staying in Hostel 2. Subsequently I did my PGDIE from NITIE, Powaii.
After six years in the Automobile Industry – two years each in Telco, Premier Automobiles and Eicher Tractors – I joined Khimline Pumps Pvt Ltd as Production Manager in 1982. Khimline initially entered a joint venture with Sulzer Pumps Switzerland and was later taken over by Sulzer as a fully owned subsidiary in 1990. Thereupon I was appointed General Manager, Manufacturing. In 2000, I took over as GM Sales and Marketing and eventually was appointed Managing Director in 2004.
In 2006 I was appointed as Global Operations Support Head and joined the Sulzer Pumps Management Team at their Headquarter in Winterthur Switzerland. In 2009 I was appointed President of Sulzer Pumps Asia Pacific and tasked with developing their business in the Asia Pacific Region which included developing the market, building production and service facilities to cater to the local market, and to supply pumps and components globally to other regions. I retired in 2016 and returned to Mumbai.
I married Kumud in 1979 and we have 2 children Akshata and Aditya who are both in the US having done their MS there. Akshata is in New York city working for Capital One Bank, and is married to Satya Chakravarty. They have twin daughters Aria and Shloka. Aditya is in Boston working for Philips Healthcare and is married to Punam Divadkar and has a son Aarav.
